1. What Is a Guardian Home Program? (And Why We Use One)
If you've been researching ethical breeders, you may have come across the term "guardian home." Guardian/breeders terms
It sounds official, but the idea behind it is refreshingly simple: instead of keeping our breeding dogs in kennels, we place them with loving families who raise them as much-loved pets. In return, we retain limited breeding rights and cover health testing and vet costs, before the dog is desexed and stays with that family for life.
For the dog, this means growing up in a real home — with a couch to nap on, a backyard to play in, and people around them every day, rather than living in a kennel environment. That day-to-day family life shapes temperament in ways a kennel simply can't replicate, which is one of the biggest reasons our puppies tend to settle into new homes so easily.
For guardian families, it means welcoming a puppy into their lives at a reduced cost, with ongoing support from us for health, training, and any questions that come up. It's not a casual arrangement — we're selective about which homes we approve, looking at lifestyle, other pets, experience, and how much time the dog will genuinely spend as part of the family rather than left alone.
For future puppy buyers, it means the parent dogs behind every litter are well-socialised, healthy, and loved — not simply "kept for breeding." You're not just getting a puppy; you're getting the result of genuinely good breeding practices.
If you're curious about becoming a guardian home yourself, or just want to understand more about where our puppies come from, we're always happy to talk you through exactly how the program works.
